1960s Thonet dining chairs

SOLD

Beautiful 1960s Thonet-designed chairs. Steam-bent ply structure with original upholstered vinyl back and seat. Very elegant shape, lovely lines and incredibly comfortable. Great as dining chairs.

They are in near perfect condition – its rare to find these chairs with their original upholstery and in such great condition. We'll be sad to see them go...

We have four chairs available in each color - emerald green or pumpkin orange. $440 for a set of four or $240 per pair.

Austrian designer Michael Thonet was the pioneer of the bentwood technique in furniture design which first achieved international recognition at the World's Fair of 1851. These chairs, made by the same company, are a 1960s modernist take on the same theme.

McDowell-Craig 1950s industrial steel tanker desk

SOLD

SOLD
A great example of a late 1940s/early 1950s McDowell-Craig 'double pedestal' steel tanker desk in fantastic condition. This is one of our favorite pieces.

Hardly used, with clean-running drawers and great paintwork. Some slight markings, which you'd expect with a desk of this age. These desks are much sought-after for their solid, well-built construction as well as their classic design and proportions.

One large cupboard, three good-sized drawers, a center drawer and pull-out side shelf. Inside the cupboard is also a spring-mounted second side shelf – would originally have been used for a typewriter.

Lovely curved steel pedestal feet and and contrasting steel handles.
Dimensions: length= 60” width = 30” height = 30 ½”

McDowell-Craig was founded in 1946. These tanker desks were one of their earliest designs and became the foundation of their excellent reputation for quality manufacture and design. Sturdy and practically indestructible, the steel desks were much preferred to wood alternatives and stood up to the rigors of use in the military, police, and other industrial environments.

1950s chrome and cream upholstered lounge chair by Royal Metal Co. - $190

SOLD

Early 1950s vintage lounge armchair by Royal Metal Manufacturing Co. Lovely original cream upholstery with chrome steel structure. The armrests have their original walnut wood top with cream upholstery wrapped tightly underneath.

Incredibly comfortable with beautiful mid-century proportions. The chair is in great condition and very strong, though there is some slight fading in the vinyl and one small tear on one corner.

Dimensions: seat height = 17” width =24” depth = 23”

Royal Metal Manufacturing Co. of Chicago was founded in the late 1800s, and was one of the first companies in the US to promote the use of steel in domestic furniture. Tubular steel went on to become a major feature of Bauhaus design, and was a key material used by socially progressive designers through the early 20th century, who advocated quality design for the masses. Steel furniture produced by Royal Metal Manufacturing Co. promoted American quality and American values; these were chairs for people!

Vintage School Lockers

SOLD

These sturdy lockers come as a set of three. The door catches all work perfectly and have a satisfyingly well-built feel to them. We've left the graffiti on the side as we rather like it, but if you don't it would be easy enough to hide. The lockers are bolted together from the inside, so the side with graffiti on could be hidden on the inside without the need for repainting.

These are the only ones of this style we have. There are a few more individual lockers in a different style coming to the blog soon. All will be available at our sale on Saturday.
