Early 1950s vintage lounge armchair by Royal Metal Manufacturing Co. Lovely original cream upholstery with chrome steel structure. The armrests have their original walnut wood top with cream upholstery wrapped tightly underneath.
Incredibly comfortable with beautiful mid-century proportions. The chair is in great condition and very strong, though there is some slight fading in the vinyl and one small tear on one corner.
Dimensions: seat height = 17” width =24” depth = 23”
Royal Metal Manufacturing Co. of Chicago was founded in the late 1800s, and was one of the first companies in the US to promote the use of steel in domestic furniture. Tubular steel went on to become a major feature of Bauhaus design, and was a key material used by socially progressive designers through the early 20th century, who advocated quality design for the masses. Steel furniture produced by Royal Metal Manufacturing Co. promoted American quality and American values; these were chairs for people!
