A great example of a late 1940s/early 1950s McDowell-Craig 'double pedestal' steel tanker desk in fantastic condition. This is one of our favorite pieces.
Hardly used, with clean-running drawers and great paintwork. Some slight markings, which you'd expect with a desk of this age. These desks are much sought-after for their solid, well-built construction as well as their classic design and proportions.
One large cupboard, three good-sized drawers, a center drawer and pull-out side shelf. Inside the cupboard is also a spring-mounted second side shelf – would originally have been used for a typewriter.
Lovely curved steel pedestal feet and and contrasting steel handles.
Dimensions: length= 60” width = 30” height = 30 ½”
McDowell-Craig was founded in 1946. These tanker desks were one of their earliest designs and became the foundation of their excellent reputation for quality manufacture and design. Sturdy and practically indestructible, the steel desks were much preferred to wood alternatives and stood up to the rigors of use in the military, police, and other industrial environments.
