General Fireproofing Co. tanker desk

SOLD

1960s single pedestal steel tanker desk by General Fireproofing Co.

Founded in 1902 in Youngstown Ohio, General Fireproofing quickly became titans of steel furniture manufacture and design. This desk is from their 1964 'Modemaker' series, described in the original catalog as a desk for "The man who deserves the finest, the most distinguished of all desks!"

The desk has one file drawer, a box drawer, a pencil drawer and one wide, shallow drawer that runs the rest of the length of the desk. Lovely curved contrasting feet and chromed drawer handles and rim.

The desk's official color is 'Pine Frost', and it comes with a Velvoleum top. There is some inevitable marking on the desk, as expected with a desk of this age, and there are one or two chips in the edging. These desks were - and still are - much sought-after for their strong construction.

Dimensions are L50" x W30" x H30 1/2"
